$350 Million for What?!

posted Wednesday, 2 February 2005

In his State of the Union speech tonight, President Bush proudly announced that he was going to give another $350 million to the Palestinian Authority. WHAT? Mahmoud Abbas, successor of Arafat, has never renounced violence or apologized for his role in promoting terrorism all these years as Arafat's right-hand man and co-founder of Fatah. Arafat's legacy of terror - including his innovative use of airplanes as terrorist targets (not to mention children!) - is behind the so-called war we are waging against terrorism now, and behind the very real damage done to America in 9-11 and in many other attacks. And we're funding him? Weren't we also the ones who funded Saddam Hussein years ago? Is there a pattern here?

To give more money to an organization and a man so closely tied to terror, and at the same time asking for America to make great sacrifices to fight terror, is more surreal than any of the doublespeak in 1984.

If you want peace, don't give anything to terrorists. Not money. Not weapons. Not international praise and credibility. Don't give them a platform in the United Nations to push their agenda. Shun them, cut them off, cut off their funding - and for heaven's sake (actually, for our own sakes), don't hand them $350 million! You can buy a whole lot of dynamite with that kind of money.
