Helping Criminals and Enemies: When Does It Become Treason?

posted Monday, 30 May 2005

The Federal Government of the US is so "nice" that it loves helping everybody, including criminals. Take the example of convicted sex offenders. We know what these people like, so what could be nicer than giving them Viagra? In Florida, for example, over 200 sex offenders received $93,000 worth of Viagra, courtesy of Medicaid and your tax dollars.

What could be more insane? What could be a more contemptible betrayal of the American people than giving Viagra to convicted sex offenders to help them commit more crimes against our people? I mean, if this kind of insanity spread, what would be next? Perhaps something as ridiculous as giving financial aid to terrorists in the midst of our war on terror?

Oh wait - we're already doing that. And the Canadians are doing it, too. Here's an excerpt from the Washington Post, May 27, 2005, p. A1:

Bush Offers Palestinians Aid
Visiting Leader Abbas Is Praised as 'a Man of Courage'

By Peter Baker and Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writers

President Bush offered an unstinting vote of confidence and $50 million in direct aid to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas yesterday in an attempt to bolster his newly elected government and reinvigorate the Middle East peace process.

Signaling a new era of relations, the president welcomed Abbas to the White House for the first time since his January election as president of the Palestinian Authority. Bush never extended such an invitation to Abbas's predecessor, Yasser Arafat, who died in November after years of estrangement from the U.S. administration.

Israeli leaders had hoped Bush would pressure Abbas to do more to dismantle militant groups, but the president publicly voiced nothing but praise for the Palestinian leader. Calling Abbas "a man of courage," Bush endorsed his efforts to reform Palestinian institutions and agreed with his demands that Israel halt settlement expansion in the West Bank.

According to unmentionable sources, President Bush asked Mahmoud Abbas if he would like his $50 million in cash or dynamite. Abbas kindly responded that cash would be more efficient since he can get better deals on explosives in the Middle East.

Kidding aside, we cannot escape the obvious fact that Abbas was cofounder with Yasser Arafat of Fatah, the terrorist organization that spawned Middle Eastern terrorism. He was Arafat's ally and partner in treachery all these years - all that has changed is the media spin. Has Abbas ever renounced violence? Has he ever renounced the PLO aim to destroy Israel and drive out all Jews? Has he ever taken one serious step to help bring real terrorists to justice? Heaven help us - this man is tied to some of the most vile terrorists on the planet., What could be more insane than giving him money to further the work of violence against innocents?

President Bush previously pledged $350 million to the Palestinians. It would be a safer world if that money were all going to buy Viagra for sex offenders, who only devastate one or two victims at a time, most of whom survive. But whether it's giving Viagra to sex offenders of cash to terrorists, it's a betrayal of the American people.

Hundreds of American soldiers are dying in the war against terror. For our own Commander in Chief to give money to a man associated with the leaders of terrorism in the Middle East, a man whose PLO allies are buying explosives and other weapons for their war of terrorism, raises terrible questions: is this war on terror a fake war, something like the Clone War in the Star Wars series? More importantly: is our Commander in Chief acting in betrayal of the American people and the soldiers under his command? Is it not treason to give aid to terrorist enemies?

Emotion and ignorance more readily complicate problems, they rarely if ever solve them, and so it may wll be here. There is a tremendous body of evidence that psychological treatment is effective and that sex offenders are among the least likely to reoffend (3% according to US Govt study) yet old (pre '94) and flawed studies that excluded one-time offenders and focused only on incarcerated (repeat offenders always go to jail, first time hardly ever - oft heard lament) are those upon which most base their opinions and legislation, often with great potential for harm. The outrage over viagra for sex offender is supreemly illustrative in that many sex offenders report (according to my polygraph examiners) difficulty in achieving erections in appropriate sexual relations after treatment opened their eyes to the effects of their crimes. To deny those access to medical remedy is to increase frustration and stress, proven contributors to poor judgement, increasing the possiblity of returning to offensive behavior. If appropriate sexual activity is denied, what is the alternative? If you want peer-reviewed, empirical research to support my assertions, you can email me. I have over a thousand in my library, all from professional journals (International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology for one) and would be happy to provide as many references as you wish. Be informed, not wilfully ignorant - that's stupid and could be tragic. I wonder if any sex offenders have returned to inappropriate sexual activity since they have been denied access to medical remedy.
