Michael Reagan: Disappointing Audience Abuse

posted Friday, 13 May 2005

Earlier this week (May 11) I was listening to the Michael Reagan Show on talk radio. A caller named Edgar called in and complained that he was disappointed with how rude Reagan had been to previous callers who disagreed with him. Reagan acted frustrated with Edgar and said, "Edgar, you are an example of a guy who just doesn't get it." Edgar continuing talking trying to explain his point, but Reagan interrupted and said, "Edgar, the reason I'm being rude to you is because I just don't like you." He then took the next call from ad admiring fan who chuckled about Edgar's call. Reagan joined in and started making fun of the previous caller. He then said that the reason Edgar was having such a hard time was probably because of all the pain that came with having a dumb name like Edgar. Reagan imagined gthe poor child turning to his parents to say, "You named me what?? Edgar?" Ha ha!

A few minutes later, as Reagan was ending the show, he mentioned that he had a prayer breakfast coming up. He then said that he hoped Edgar would come to the prayer breakfast because maybe he would learn something.

It's not unusual to find weak-minded talkshow hosts resorting to low-class name-calling when they can't deal with criticism. But what base hypocrisy to also pose as a Christian evangelist of some kind, inviting someone to a prayer breakfast after mocking them behind their back. Perhaps it's tempting to mock people when they are really acting like idiots, but Edgar was a civil and polite caller expressing a genuine concern - a concern that was fully demonstrated by Reagan's childish behavior.

I'm a convservative, but find very little of value in the so-called conservative talk-show Michael Reagan, whose position appears to be that of supporting Republicans rather than supporting conservative values. (Mocking callers is not a conservative value.)
