So How Do Trials Work in Canada?

posted Saturday, 22 January 2005

The headline for a story in today's Toronto Star raises interesting questions about the Canadian legal system. While the story is actually about a US case, the real issue is why at least some Canadians would consider this to be news: "Past could play key role in Jackson trial." Yes, Canada, believe it or not, in America, we still prosecute people for what they did in the past, not for what they might do in the future.

But give us time - our progressives are working to change that with innovative hate crime legislation.
