Wisconsin's Long Winter with Governor Doyle: We Need a Thaw - and a Change

posted Tuesday, 8 February 2005

We're in for about two more years of winter with Wisconsin's Governor Jim Doyle, the man who vetoed legislation that could have abated escalating property taxes in Wisconsin, the man who cut an illicit deal with the casinos to give them a huge tax break in return for massive cash flow into his campaign for his current office, a deal that robbed Wisconsin taxpayers. He killed the tax freeze, but it seems colder than ever with him at the top. His out-of-control spending plans don't bode well for the future. Wisconsin needs to turn up the heat on Doyle and melt him out of office.

Here's what Congressman Mark Green has to say about  Doyle's budget and other plans, as reported by Charlie Sykes:

“Last week one of our state’s most famous four- legged residents, Jimmy the Groundhog, gave us the good news that we can expect an early spring. Tonight, Jim Doyle gave taxpayers in Wisconsin a much bleaker forecast – expect higher taxes and more government spending for the foreseeable future.

“Governor Doyle made his priorities clear tonight: a massive spending increase, higher fees for hunters and fishermen, and a return to unchecked increases in school district spending. He wants to roll back Truth in Sentencing and let criminals out of prison early. He wants taxpayers to fund health care benefits for domestic partners in Madison – while thousands of Wisconsin employers and employees struggle with increasing health care costs.

“And, Jim Doyle is still the only person standing in the way of an honest property tax freeze. The non-freeze he proposed tonight only further demonstrates that while Jim Doyle understands his political vulnerabilities, he doesn’t understand that high taxes and increased government spending are making it tougher for Wisconsinites to own homes and for entrepreneurs to create jobs.

“Most disturbing is Jim Doyle’s zeal for sham budgeting – stealing from Wisconsin’s future to pay for his bureaucracy of today. Instead of making tough choices and offering bold ideas, Jim Doyle decided to raid every pot of money he could find – even though those funds were already spoken for. He should have titled his proposal ‘The Beg, Borrow and Steal Budget.’"

Green would like Governory Doyle's job. The sooner the better! Good luck to you, Congressman Green. We need a change!
