"A Performance Rollback from Wal-Mart's Laptop" in Consumer Reports (Dec. 2004, p. 7 - see a short summary in a ConsumerReports.org press release) warns that the new $585 laptops sold at Wal-Mart are junk. The ECS Elitegroup A535 has numerous shortcomings. It's too slow to be of much use except perhaps for e-mail or word processing (but be prepared to pay extra money to get a word processor - productivity software is not include); the computer gets too hot to use on your lap (bad fan design - ouch!); there is no CD or DVD burner included; mouse buttons require very high pressure to activate (good for finger workouts, though); and there is only 96 Meg of ram.
Don't waste your money on Wal-Mart computers.
The link above to the press release also has a warning about the pocket bikes (mini-motorcycles) that are now being produced. Stay off these things. Dangerous pieces of junk with bad brakes, poor visibility, unsteady performance above 20 miles per hour, etc.
