Used Typewriter Wanted for a Rather Desperate Friend

posted Saturday, 11 September 2004

Though I can't give his full name, a certain friend of mine that I'll call "Dan R." is willing to pay BIG BUCKS if you can find an old used typewriter for him. But not just any typewriter. He needs one that was in existence around 1972 or 1973 that can make documents look like they were generated by modern word processors on computers. The typewriter should type with "proportional spacing" between letters, create sophisticated superscripts, use Times Roman font, and so forth. And if you're thinking that the 1966 IBM Composer typewriter might qualify, forget it - that has already been ruled out. Can't do the job.

If you've got such a typewriter, it could net you about $25,000 or so. Maybe more - my buddy is rather desperate. I'm not sure why. When I asked him, he just beat around the bush. He seems to do that a lot. Rather odd behavior. But believe me, HE NEEDS THAT TYPEWRITER.

Plus, there's a $5,000 bonus if you can prove that anybody in the military, especially the National Guard, ever used the typewriter. Throw in another $10,000 if you can prove it using documents that were NOT obviously forged.

If you happen to have a qualifying typewriter, this could be your lucky day. You could really make a killian!
