"Scott Peterson was only defending a man's right to choose" according to Tamber Lane, Public Outreach Officer (POO) for Planned Unparenthood. Referring to today's conviction of Scott Peterson for the deaths of Laci and what right-wing activists in the courts have called his "unborn son," Ms. Lane indicated that the termination of the unwanted fetal matter was actually a courageous expression of Mr. Peterson's Constitutionally protected right to choose that should honored rather than punished. "Laci's unfortunate death was an unforeseen side effect of the medical procedure that Scott Peterson attempted on his own. If only there were more federal funds available to pay for the abortion by competent clinics like ours, this whole tragedy would have been avoided."
Ms. Lane expressed hope that the conviction for the elimination of unwanted prenatal cells would be overturned by an enlightened Supreme Court.
Though today's convictions are viewed by progressives as a setback for choice, there is a silver lining for Mr. Peterson. In addition to a $10,000 award as a Defender of Choice to be given by Planned Unparenthood, Mr. Peterson may also receive a $50,000 purse for the first Yasser Arafat Memorial Medal of Honor from the PLO, if genealogical research confirms rumors that Laci Peterson did in fact have Jewish ancestry.
The National Organization of Womanizers, a nonprofit group pursuing progressive men's issues, has sought to defend not only the removal of the unborn son but also of Laci from Scott's life. According to a controversial Nov. 11 press release, "We regret Laci's death and oppose murder in general. However, Laci was just as inconvenient to Scott as any unwanted fetus is to its mother. For his own health and welfare, he had to make the tough choice of removing her from his life. While extreme pro-lifers may disagree, let's be honest about this: Scott was just defending a man's right to choose. Choice doesn't just mean getting rid of unwanted babies, it means unwanted babes as well."
Several political experts expect that a man's right to choose will become an increasingly important issue for progressives in the future, and may play a significant role in the next presidential election.
it makes me very sad about what happened to Laci and her unborn son. If
Scott was trying to do what he thought would be best for him, he shouldn't
have gotten married and on top of that he had an affair and then muredered
his wife and unborn baby. He deserved what was coming to him. Especially
if he thought he could get away with a double murder.
