Warning: Bizrate.com and Unwanted Credit Card Billings

posted Monday, 30 May 2005

Last year I made the mistake of accepting a low-cost 6-month subscription to several magazines offered by Bizrate.com. The marketing did not warn that there would be an automatic renewal. But yesterday I noticed about $90 of charged for 3 magazines on my credit card. I called and complained and asked how they could do this when I never asked for it. They said there must have been a postcard mailed to me indicating that the renewal would come unless I said no. I don't think this is true. I did find a letter from the publisher of one of the magazines stating that my subscription would end unless I returned a form asking for renewal. But in spite of my not having asked for renewal, I was billed for MIT Technology Review and other magazines anyway. Crooks! Beware of Bizrate.com.
